Jardini Arowana - (Scleropages jardinii)
Fish Details, Description and Information Below:

🐟 Jardini Arowana — (Scleropages jardinii)

The Jardini Arowana, also known as the Pearl Arowana, is a stunning, ancient fish species prized for its shimmering metallic scales adorned with distinctive pinkish-gold to copper spots. Native to Northern Australia and parts of Papua New Guinea, this predatory species is a surface-dwelling powerhouse known for its strength, speed, and striking beauty.

Closely related to the Asian Arowana (Scleropages formosus), the Jardini is highly territorial and best suited for experienced keepers with very large aquariums. It’s a true centerpiece fish — both for its prehistoric appearance and commanding presence.

🌊 Tank Setup

  • 🏠 Tank Size: Minimum 250 gallons for adults — larger is always better.
  • 🌊 Long, wide tanks preferred for swimming room.
  • 💹 Strong filtration and high oxygenation are critical.
  • đŸȘŽ Minimal decor with open swimming space; use driftwood or sturdy plants along the sides for aesthetics.

đŸœïž Diet

  • đŸ„© Carnivore — consumes fish, insects, and crustaceans in the wild.
  • đŸ€ In captivity: feed prawns, shrimp, fish fillets, crickets, mealworms, earthworms, and quality carnivore pellets.
  • ⚠ Avoid overfeeding fatty meats like beef heart to prevent health issues.

⚖ Temperament

  • đŸš« Aggressive and territorial — especially toward similar-shaped or sized fish.
  • 🐟 Best kept alone or with very large, robust, and fast-moving tankmates.
  • ❌ Will consume any fish small enough to fit in its mouth.

🧠 Behavior & Care

  • 🩮 An ancient “living fossil” dating back over 100 million years.
  • 🩘 Strong jumper — tank must have a secure, heavy lid.
  • đŸ’Ș Extremely hardy but requires pristine water quality.
