This applies to fish purchased from us, another online seller, a local fish store, breeder, importer, or anywhere else.
Even a fish that looks completely healthy can carry parasites, bacteria, or other illnesses that may not be immediately visible.
Quarantine helps protect both your new fish and the fish already in your aquarium.
Shipping and moving can be stressful for fish. Stress may cause health problems that were not visible when the fish was packed or first arrived.
A separate quarantine tank gives you time to:
A fish can appear healthy when it arrives and still develop symptoms later.
That is exactly why quarantine is so important.
There is no single quarantine period that is perfect for every species or situation.
As a general starting point, many hobbyists quarantine new fish for 2–4 weeks, while some fish or situations may require a longer observation period.
Do not rush a fish into your main aquarium simply because it appears healthy after a few days.
A quarantine setup does not need to be complicated.
Whenever possible, use:
Try not to share water or equipment between your quarantine tank and established aquariums.
Always maintain water conditions appropriate for the species you purchased.
We do not recommend randomly treating every fish with medications without knowing what you are treating.
Observe the fish carefully first.
If you notice unusual behavior, external parasites, fungus, spots, rapid breathing, loss of appetite, or other concerning symptoms, identify the possible problem before selecting a treatment.
When you are unsure, consult an experienced aquatic veterinarian or qualified fish-health professional.
We visually inspect fish before they are packed for shipment.
If a fish appears unhealthy or we believe it should not be shipped, we will not knowingly ship it.
However, no fish seller can guarantee that a live fish is completely free of every parasite, bacteria, disease, or health condition simply by looking at it.
For this reason, every new fish should be quarantined regardless of where it was purchased.

Adding a new fish is exciting, but taking a little extra time before introducing it to your established aquarium can prevent much bigger problems later.
