🌡 Detailed Fish Tank Temperature Guide

🛸 Stingrays

  • 🛸 Freshwater Stingrays (Potamotrygon sp.) → 78–82°F (25–28°C)
    • Require very stable temps and high oxygenation.
    • Sensitive to swings—keep within a 1°F range if possible.

🐟 Loaches

  • 🐅 Clown Loach (Chromobotia macracanthus) → 78–82°F (25–28°C)
  • 🐍 Kuhli Loach (Pangio spp.) → 75–80°F (24–27°C)
  • 🐉 Dojo/Weather Loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) → 65–75°F (18–24°C) (cool-water, don’t keep warm long-term)
  • ⚠️ Note: Loaches are very oxygen-demanding; warm water (>80°F) requires extra aeration.

🐉 Arowana

  • 🐉 Silver/Black/Jardini/Asian Arowana → 77–82°F (25–28°C)
    • Thrive with strong flow & high oxygen.
    • Avoid temps below 75°F, as digestion and immunity weaken.

🎣 Peacock Bass (Cichla spp.)

  • 🎣 Cichla ocellaris, monoculus, temensis, etc. → 78–84°F (25–29°C)
    • Big predators, require stable warm water.
    • Cooler temps (<76°F) can cause stress and appetite loss.

🌴 Central American Cichlids

(Parachromis, Amphilophus, Vieja, Thorichthys, etc.)

  • 🌴 General Range → 76–80°F (24–27°C)
    • Examples:
      • 🐆 Jaguar Cichlid (Parachromis managuensis) → 76–80°F
      • 🔥 Red Devil / Midas (Amphilophus labiatus/citrinellus) → 76–80°F
      • 🎨 Firemouth (Thorichthys meeki) → 75–80°F
      • 🌈 Vieja species → 76–80°F
    • Most are hardy but don’t like it too warm (>82°F).

🌎 North American Cichlids (True natives & related species)

(Technically only Herichthys are NA, but often grouped in hobby with CA species)

  • 🌎 Herichthys cyanoguttatus (Texas Cichlid) → 72–77°F (22–25°C)
  • 🌊 Herichthys carpintis (Pearlscale Texas) → 72–77°F (22–25°C)
    • Cooler-tolerant compared to SA/CA cichlids.
    • Don’t keep in warm tropical discus-style tanks long-term.
