🐟 Siamese Giant Carp – (Catlocarpio siamensis) – The Largest Carp Species in the World
The Siamese Giant Carp, also known as the Giant Barb, is the largest member of the carp family (Cyprinidae), capable of reaching truly massive sizes. Native to the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of Southeast Asia, particularly the Mekong and Chao Phraya River basins, this species can grow over 9 feet (2.75 m) long and weigh more than 600 pounds (272 kg) in the wild.
Highly endangered due to habitat loss and overfishing, the Siamese Giant Carp is rarely seen in the aquarium trade and is more often kept in public aquariums or private tropical ponds with enormous capacity.
