Hypostomus affinis is a medium-to-large Loricariid catfish native to South America, particularly in Brazil’s coastal river basins. Known for its armored body and sucker mouth, this species plays an important role in controlling algae growth in its natural environment. While not as brightly colored as some plecos, its mottled brown pattern and hardy nature make it a notable species in the Hypostomus genus.
