The Vampire Shrimp (Atya gabonensis), also known as the Gabon Filter Shrimp or Giant African Fan Shrimp, is a peaceful, filter-feeding freshwater shrimp native to fast-flowing rivers in West Africa. This fascinating species can grow much larger than most aquarium shrimp, reaching up to 6 inches in length. Instead of using pincers, it has specialized fan-like appendages to catch microscopic food particles from the water column, making it a unique and low-maintenance addition to peaceful community tanks.
