Slobbering Catfish - (Brachyplatystoma platynema)
Fish Details, Description and Information Below:

🐟 Slobbering Catfish – (Brachyplatystoma platynema) – Long-Whiskered South American Giant

The Slobbering Catfish (Brachyplatystoma platynema) is a large, predatory freshwater catfish from the Amazon and Orinoco River Basins. Known for its extremely long maxillary barbels that extend well past its body length, it uses these sensory whiskers to detect prey in murky waters. The common name “slobbering” comes from the way these barbels trail and wave constantly, almost like drool in the water.

This powerful swimmer requires huge aquariums or indoor ponds and is best suited for highly experienced keepers who can provide the space and strong filtration it demands.
