The Smallspotted Suriname Pleco (Hypostomus micromaculatus) is a rarely seen Loricariid catfish found in Suriname’s river systems. It is named for its dense pattern of tiny dark spots covering its lighter-colored body, giving it a refined, speckled appearance. Like other Hypostomus species, it is a hardy algae grazer that also consumes driftwood and detritus in its diet.

This species is very uncommon in the aquarium trade, making it a prized find for pleco collectors and South American biotope enthusiasts.
