The Pom Pom Marbled Knifefish (Papyrocranus afer) is a rare and unusual freshwater species native to West Africa. Known for its elongated, laterally compressed body, continuous undulating fin movement, and distinct marbled pattern, this knifefish adds a fascinating presence to large aquariums. Its common name “Pom Pom” comes from the fleshy growths (papillae) near its mouth, giving it a distinctive look compared to other knifefish.
